U14 Boys Polecats overcome Guildford

Strong performance against Guildford puts the Polecats on top
Guildford HC u14 Boys 1 Reigate Priory U14 Boys 5
An extremely solid performance away on Sunday by the u14 Polecats team, going from strength to strength.
On paper this was technically 2nd v 3rd but Priory took absolute control of the game from the very outset and never looked like loosening their grip. Guildford looked like a reasonable passing side but the high press employed by Reigate together with the boys' level of fitness meant that Guildford struggled for both possession and territory.
The platform for the win was created by a back four of Will Day, Jasper Spurden, Josh Harvey and Marcus Austin. Together with the ever solid goalkeeping from James Carlton, they were outstanding at sniffing out any danger and also extremely effective at switching the play; ensuring that the opposition were constantly kept moving.
Too often this unit doesn't get the recognition which they deserve as they are so understated and just consistently do the simple things well and without fuss. It is no coincidence that Reigate has conceded the fewest number of goals in the league this season.
The midfield engine room of Ben Turrington, Sam Parker and Esmond Hopkins ensured the constant creation of chances for the forward line which included Ben Coombes, Joe Bruce, Jamie Shuttleworth, James McDowell and Will Smithson.
Goals came from Esmond Hopkins (1) / Joe Bruce and Will Smithson (2).
Reigate Priory top the table as Woking did not play. It looks like going down to the wire as the final game of the season will be away to Woking.
