information for the season ahead

The hockey season approaches and I wanted to give a quick update on the lie of the land for the year ahead.

Firstly I would like to welcome the Year 10’s who are joining us from the Under 14’s – Tom Garmston, Matthew Davies, Harry Packham & Freddie Gill, Alex Darnell and Paul Randall. We have also invited Jonathan Tibble to join us a year early. Most of you are familiar faces from our Under 14 side two years ago and I know we have some real talent there.

I want to cover a few things briefly

Training

Training will be same time, same place – 6:30 – 8:00pm at Hartswood, starting on September 10th. Some players, such as James Murphy & Archie Trevor, may be invited to the top training group, which will be run by Simon Owen;

Sunday Matches

Games start on September 13 with a nice easy game against Sevenoaks! The fixtures are online here:

I’m not sure what will happen in February & March with fixtures – potentially play-offs …

Men’s Matches on Saturdays

The Club would be delighted for as many of you as possible to make yourselves available for Saturday games. James Murphy will be challenging for a 1st XI place with Archie close behind. Last year’s skipper Max Maddux should be in the 2nd XI – the club does support young players progress! Several others of you played last season and I took great delight in watching a pre-dominantly Colts side win in style in the last Pilgrims game of the season.

Helping Out Younger Colts training

Most of you will have known the likes of David Gent, Matt Zander, Josh Bunn, Jamie Vidler who have helped out with the younger Colts training on Friday nights for the last few years. They are all off to uni or on gap years so it would be great if some of you guys could help out. This can be done as part of the higher level Duke of Edinburgh award scheme – with a bit of planning so that I can co-ordinate with the school leads.

Membership Fees

We are putting membership fees up a little this season to £80 for Colts and £140* (or £80 plus £10 per game Saturday match fee) for those playing Colts and Saturdays. This is a very competitive rate in comparison to other clubs, and takes account of the rising costs of hiring astro pitches.

That is more than enough for know.

Please get back to me with any questions.
