An impressive win over Cheam sees RPHC Ladies 1XI a step closer to the top!

RPHC Ladies 1XI took to the pitch buzzing from last weeks win to face Cheam and still unbeaten. The game started with Cheam pressing hard from the first whistle which took Reigate a little by surprise. Quickly stepping up a gear, Reigate’s defensives partnership Tamsin Hartin & Izzy Higgs along with Keeper Cat Lynn saw off any chances Cheam tried to create. Jane Williams slowly took back control of the midfield and with the support of her halves Kate Williams & Lucy Donovan put Reigate back on the front foot! Reigate started to create chances of their own, with shots from Tiger Garfield, Corinne Daniel & Stacy Bone narrowly missing the target. Another quick move down the right saw Kate Williams dribble into the D then only to be tackled illegally as she took a strike, Sir William had no choice but to award Reigate a penalty stroke. Stacy Bone stepped up to take the penalty, altho a great effort was saved by the Cheam keeper. I think the frustration of missing the penalty fired up Stacy Bone as she picked up the ball on the 23, with skill and determination to make amends, dribbled the ball into the D and fired off a superb reverse stick strike to put Reigate ahead!
Just before the break one of the Cheam players went down with a dislocated shoulder, a freak accident following a 50/50 challenge. Kate Williams stepped up as paramedic and sorted the poor girl out… We wish her well.
In the second half, Reigate continued to push forward, Jane Williams continued to dominate the centre mid position and with her inners Ellie Craven and Stacy Bone running tirelessly Reigate hit Cheam while their heads were down! Georgie Wood & Nathalie George continued to hassle the Cheam defence which opened up the space for 2 quick goals from Laura Zander and Corinne Daniel effectively killing off the game. Cheam did well to create some chances but ultimately there was only going to be one winner – RPHC! That’s now 8 games unbeaten this season and the win sees the ladies move to within 2 points of the top of the table!
