Following last weeks defeat, the ladies 1XI needed to pick themselves up and take a win into the Christmas break.

Priory were fielding a strong team, it saw the return of centre back Lindsay Jobling, and a debut for forward Freyja Cox, however due to some dodgy availability Priory only had the core 11, fitness would be tested as they all had to run for 70 minutes.

All teams now onto the return fixtures, and last time these two met, it was a drubbing 11-0 in Priory’s favour. However, they knew this wasn’t going to be so easy, as Woking’s results have been steadily improving throughout season.

Priory push forward from the first whistle and put Woking on the back foot, the lightening pace of Georgie Wood was a constant threat for the Woking defence and Jane Williams, who has been solid at Centre Mid all season, continued to distribute the ball around with pin point accuracy.

First blood was drawn in Priory’s favour, when the ball was hit across the face of goal, the initial strike came from Freyja Cox, unfortunately for her, the Woking keeper had other ideas than to let her score on her debut, and made the initial save only to see Corinne Daniel follow up the rebound into the back of the net.

The Second half saw Woking come alive and they started to put pressure on the Priory defence, but with the reunited centre back pairing of Tamsin Hartin and Lindsay Jobling and some dynamo saves from stand in keeper, Rachel Bate, thankfully kept the score in Priory’s favour. Jane Williams soon took back control of the midfield and the tide slowly turned back in their favour, with a penalty corner being awarded. Priory executed a well drilled move to see Jane Williams finish it with a goal.

As the clock ticked down in the second half, Woking continued to try and batter down Priory’s defence, but they continued to hold fast. This did leave Woking open at the back and in the final few minutes and a last surge from Priory, Jane Williams struck the ball into the D, Tiger Garfield picked up the ball and pushed towards goal, a slight deflection off the back the Keeper and the ball found its way into the net to make it 3-0 and kill off the game.

A fantastic performance from all of the girls but player of the match was awarded to Gerogie Wood, for pace, determination and work rate.

Squad – Rachel Bate, Lindsay Jobling, Tamsin Hartin, Izzy Higgs, Kate Williams, Jane Williams, Georgie Wood, Ellie Craven, Corinne Daniel, Freyja Cox, Tiger Garfield.
